Amit is the Chief Sustainability Officer at O.P. Jindal Global University in India, an Associate Professor cross-appointed between the IIHEd (International Institute for Higher Education Research & Capacity Building) and JSES (Jindal School of Environment and Sustainability) and the Executive Director of CECRAS (Center of Excellence in Corporate Responsibility & Sustainability). His latest environmental studies project is Ecologies, Communities & Markets, which examines critical ecosystems conservation through the agency of sustainable livelihoods creation via responsible market-linkages for ecosystem-dependent communities, such as in the Western Ghats of India. He has a Master’s degree in Environmental Studies from York University, Canada and a Graduate Diploma in Business & The Environment from the globally ranked Schulich School of Business, Canada along with a Master’s degree in Life Sciences from the University of Mumbai and a Bachelor’s degree in Life Sciences, Chemistry & Environmental Science from St. Xavier’s College, Mumbai.
He combines about seven years of experience in the global life sciences industry with two European MNCs with more than twenty years in academia as a professor in Canada and India. His career has spanned working across Canada, France, Germany, the U.A.E. and India. Amit was conferred with the Board of Governors Award of Excellence in Community Partnerships in 2015 in Canada, the highest award in the Ontario Colleges of Applied Arts and Technology. He relocated to India in 2017 to work for Jindal Global University- an institute of eminence in India and globally ranked by the QS World University Rankings- where he is mandated with creating the institutional capacity for research, teaching and training in the various facets of sustainable development. He is also responsible for fostering university-community engagements with multiple stakeholders like- the development & civil society organizations, government, international agencies & the corporate sector. He is also participated in the UNESCO’s Knowledge for Change mentorship program- to foster community- based research in academia. Most recently, he has been selected to be an international delegate in the Sustainability Leadership Academy conducted by a Harvard University faculty member and facilitated by the Environmental Association of Universities & Colleges, U.K. (EAUC).
