Amar Mali is a second year PhD student at IIHEd. His doctoral research explores school leadership practices among tribal communities of Maharashtra, India. Under the broader umbrella of sociology of education, he will be critically examining the global and national educational policy frameworks. For his PhD thesis on strength-based school leadership practices, Amar will be working under the supervision of Dr. Mousumi Mukherjee and Dr. Venesser Fernandes.
Amar holds a bachelor degree in Mechanical engineering and has worked in engineering sector with a MNC before joining the masters in social sciences. He completed his masters from Tata Institute of Social Sciences, Mumbai in Development Studies. His master’s dissertation was on comparative study of Buddhist philosopher Nagarjuna’s philosophy of dependent co-origination in the text of Mulamadhamikakarika with the philosophical tenets of post-structuralism. He has been a part of two research projects (on comprehensive study of Ashram Schools in Maharashtra, on urban displacement and early childhood care and education in Bangalore) at National Institute of Advanced Studies, Bangalore.
