Professor (Dr.) Saumen Chattopadhyay

Professor Saumen Chattopadhyay was awarded Ph.D. (Economics) in 2002 from Jawaharlal Nehru University, New Delhi. The title of Ph.D. thesis is “Macroeconomic Dis-equilibrium and the Black Economy in the context of Stabilisation Policy in India”. He received his M.Phil. (Economics) from Jawaharlal Nehru University, New Delhi in 1991, with First Class). The title of the dissertation was “Private Corporate Investment in India, 1966-87”. Professor Saumen Chattopadhyay specializes in the following areas: Economics of Education with focus on education policy, governance and financing of education; Public finance with focus on tax evasion and the black economy. Prof. Saumen worked as a consultant to the project The Role of Tax Heavens: In Global Governance and Regulation In the External Finance Equation for Economic Development funded by the Institute for Research in Economics and Business Administration (SNF), Bergen, Norway during 2012-2015. He was the Principal Researcher (PI) of a project entitled ‘Doing Research-Assessing research Environment for Social Sciences in India and Bangladesh’ being funded by Global Development Network (GDN). Project duration one year starting from 21 January 2015.
