Professor Dato' Ir. Dr. Kamal Nasharuddin Mustaph

Professor Dato’ Ir Dr Kamal Nasharuddin Bin Mustapha was born on 8 June 1962 in Machang, Kelantan, Malaysia. He completed his secondary education at Mara Junior Science College, Kota Bharu. Later, he continued his ‘A’ Level study at Kelsterton College of Technology, Wales, UK. After earning his Bachelor in Civil and Structural Engineering from University of Sheffield, UK in 1984, he pursued his studies at Heriot-Watt University, Scotland, UK and obtained a Master’s Degree in 1986 in the field of Structural Engineering. In 1994, Professor Kamal retains a stated passion for higher education transformation, interdisciplinary research and communicating his own enthusiasm for science and scholarship as a whole to the public, he obtained his PhD from University of Aston, UK in Structural-Fire Engineering. Professor Kamal retains a stated passion for higher education transformation, interdisciplinary research and communicating his own enthusiasm for science and scholarship as a whole to the public, Being a strong advocate of lifelong learning and wholesome knowledge-seeking scholar, Professor Kamal has also completed his Postgraduate Diploma in Syariah at Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia and ASEAN Senior Management Development Program under Harvard Business School.

Professor Kamal’s research interests are in Forensic Engineering and Behaviour of Concrete at Elevated Temperatures and has published over 160 papers in journals and proceedings. Professor Kamal has also served as external examiner for Masters and PhD students from various universities in Malaysia.

Professor Kamal is currently the Vice-Chancellor of University Tenaga Nasional (UNITEN), a Council Member of MARA Malaysia, a member of the Engineering Accreditation Council (EAC) Malaysia, Chairman of the Vice-Chancellor Council for Private Universities in Malaysia (VCCPU), Deputy Chairman of Government-Linked Universities Malaysia (GLU) and also a member of Ministry of Higher Education Malaysia – Private Institutions of Higher Learning Council.
